A burst of colour and upswept petals, Cyclamen is an expressive depiction of blossoming flowers by the master of watercolour, Emil Nolde. Painted in a close-up view, Nolde uses the medium to its fullest, with overlaying pigment and vivid saturated tones, whilst his loose brushstrokes capture the velvety texture.

Nolde painted flowers and gardens throughout his life, designing his own garden around two large flower beds forming the shape of two letters – the letter E, Nolde’s initial, and the letter A, the initial of his wife Ada.

This work, circa 1950-52, is being offered at auction for the first time as part of our online sale of Impressionist & Modern Art. Open for bidding until 29 July at the link in our bio.
