Edit **

It has become known that this black and white photo challenge was created as a way to share stories of femicide in Turkey. People began sharing victims stories, and their black and white photos that would appear in local newspapers. As an act of solidarity, and acknowledgement that it could happen to anyone, women began posting photos of themselves as they would appear in the newspaper.

When I discovered the true origin of this “challenge”, I wanted to take down my post. If nothing else, change the photo to something that felt more appropriate. Then I thought, it is ok to be wrong. I learn from mistakes every day. I think this social media space can be what you like. Instagram can be for politics, art, comedy, hobbyists, and endless other outlets. Furthermore, if someone wants to post a B&W photo of themselves to honor their own power, that is also a beautiful thing. I decided to leave this photo here, but I am not going to use any hashtags, since I do not want to bury any posts that are more relevant to the original intention of the challenge.
