If I have learned anything during this crazy time, it’s been to allow myself to be messy and do things because I enjoy them, not because I need or want them to be perfect. •••• It has been such a long time since I have picked up my violin. I was scared to touch it because I knew I wouldn’t be as good as I once was. I was comparing my playing now to that of my old self , which in turn was preventing me from playing at all and causing unneeded stress and pressure! ••••• I had the opportunity to perform this song, ‘Night Song’ by Noel pointer, while being backed by Brian Mcknights band, at a show Tommy Davidson was putting on at (what was) the Sunset Room in LA. I was 18 years old and met Tommy through the owner of a restaurant (shout out: @allanastjohn ) I was waitressing at called Tangerine Cafe. It was an incredible opportunity. Tommy was so supportive and kind and really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I was trained classically , what did I know about playing jazz?! It was a night and an introduction to LA that I will never forget. •••••• This video is me picking up my violin for the first time in over a year and trying to play this song from memory for the first time in 18 years! I wasn’t going to post it, I only recorded it to send to my mom @mbethanyd and bestie @ariellekebbel since they were both there that night, so many moons ago, to cheer me on. I decided to share it on here because I found so much joy in letting go and being messy and thought maybe some of you need that little extra boost right now to get out of your comfort zone and just be messy too!
