I had been camping a few times as a kid and loved being outside, but it wasn’t until I was about 15 when I caught the climbing bug at a local climbing gym. Plywood walls, greasy, polished holds, and no AC in the summer. It was like learning to climb on walls of butter. Conditions aside, that’s where climbing took hold of my life, replacing my love of playing music and pairing well with my new photography hobby. I was 18 before I actually got to rope up and climb real rock on a college-organized trip to the Red River Gorge. My mind melted staring at the towering walls of rock. From that point on, climbing consumed me. I climbed almost every day through college and dreamed of making my way out west to the mountainous Promised Land. I finished my degree in photojournalism and drove my car straight to California, hoping to finally experience the raw power of the rugged western mountains. I started my career as a photojournalist in Los Angeles, working in the news industry before transitioning into the commercial world, where I now focus on outdoor lifestyle and action sports. I’ve made it over 10 years without working a “real job,” traveling the world and investing all my effort into maximizing my time spent outside. Photography became a vehicle for my curiosity and has led me into so many different experiences, places, cultures, and interests. It helps me explore my fascination with people and their relationship to the natural world. It has led me into new hobbies like skiing, mountain biking, trail running, and high-lining. While I wouldn’t consider myself a professional athlete in any particular field, I still have to stay fit enough to keep up with (or stay ahead of) the professionals I’m photographing." #marmotclubambassador Portrait photo: @alexgoodlett」7月30日 0時23分 - marmot
