Glacial melt ponds are formed during the spring & summer months along sea ice or ice sheets where the surface is flat. They appear like a swimming pool amongst the blinding white of the ice. Often sapphire in color, these melt ponds are truly a rarity as they can sometimes last only a short period of time and finding them can be a particularly fun challenge.
