As an adult, she still brings that same joy to every project as she discovers old buildings and adapts them to life in the 21st century.  Together with the other members of her office, Karin Ames and Sadi Dhakhwa, the team have 56 years of professional experience between them. Between them, they’ve noticed many misconceptions about the work they do; “people often assume architects make a lot of money” Neuhaus explains, adding “at the same time they often underestimate the value that we bring to a project.”  Life at Neuhaus Design Architecture has changed dramatically as a result of Covid-19. The team began working remotely just before shut down, thinking that the change might last a week or two. Then they adapted again, changing their lease to be month to month before finally giving up the space and deciding to become a virtual office. And, as the future remains uncertain, the company has also had to keep on adapting “we want to be cautious and prioritize salaries and healthcare over rent”.  That resiliency is also one of Neuhaus’ favorite things about the city of New York. She first visited from Texas at the age of 13 “I told my parents then that I wanted to live here someday. I came for college and never left.”  The Coach Foundation is proud to support small businesses like @neuhausdesignarchitecture in partnership with NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) through its contribution to the NYC Small Business Continuity Loan Fund.
