Our posts represent the black and white photos they see in the news and online of yet another woman that has been taken too soon. The Istanbul Convention is a treaty put in place to protect women against domestic violence and becoming another tragic story on the news. 474 women were victims of gender-based violence in the last year alone. This challenge is for them. It is for Pinar Gültekin, who was murdered by her former partner at just 27 years old. It is for all the victims that never got their justice in court, as a result of a flawed legal system. It is for any woman that has been a victim of physical, emotional, or sexual violence. It is for every woman that will lose what little protection they have if Turkey chooses to back out of the Istanbul Convention. So when you share the black and white photo, remember that it could be any of us, so we need to stand for all of us.
