Thursday marks 75 years since the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing more than 70,000 people instantly. A second bomb followed three days later over Nagasaki and killed 40,000 more. The devastation led to Japan's unconditional surrender and brought an end to World War II. To this day, it is the only time that nuclear weapons have been used in warfare.
