I have now become his voice and the voice for those who can no longer speak. My son Shawn would often remind me, "Dukes there is nothing you can't do." I created The Shawn Moss Wellness and Growth Foundation. It started with just The Shawn Moss Angel Tree where we provide families with gifts and other items during the holiday season. Education was very big in our household, and the foundation is now working toward establishing The Shawn Moss Wellness and Growth Foundation School (link in bio). Gun violence affects hundreds of families like mine every day, and the Black community is at the highest risk for being shot and killed. Too many lives are being ended. My response to being a gun violence survivor is this: I claim my right to exist and to continue to function and prosper. Even in situations of death, I choose to remain alive. Why?
