#WorkoftheWeek: Inka Essenhigh's 'Show Girls' 2000 depicts two androgynous figures entangled in a fight. The artist's use of flat colour and fine outlines is cartoon-like, but unlike cartoons her figures never have faces. Essenhigh has explained: 'Faces add baggage, especially cartoon faces, which, like a stylised tattoo, can reveal a lot about yourself -- your education, cultural attitudes, personal aesthetics and so on. Delineated faces bring unnecessary information to the image and prevent abstraction.'
