In the U.S., 83% of mothers decide to breastfeed their newborn. And new moms know it's an experience that comes with its own challenges. In maternity wards, nurses have a nickname for breast milk: liquid gold. Mother’s milk is rich in the protein, sugar, fat and antibodies babies need to survive and thrive in their first six months. And just as mining a precious metal is hard, it takes time, effort, and support to establish, build, and maintain a supply of breast milk. While many of these challenges can be easily overcome with the right help, the pandemic has made those resources nearly impossible for new mothers to access, whether in the hospital or from home. New moms are having to face the challenges of breastfeeding in a way they've never before.
