MASSIVE OIL SPILL: The government of Mauritius has declared a state of environmental emergency two weeks after a cargo ship ran aground on a reef in the Indian Ocean. Fuel leaking from the ship is creating an ecological disaster, officials say, endangering coral, fish, and other marine life.

In Japan, officials of the company that owns the ship and the ship’s operator apologized over the weekend. They say they are working with a salvage ship to lift the tanker while trying to prevent any further oil leaks.
