The present work — one of a rare edition of twelve casts of the original plaster model — is being offered as part of Dream Big, our current private selling exhibition, which now includes 10 new sculptures.⠀ .⠀ Conceived in the early 1870s by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the Statue of Liberty was presented to America as a gift from the French people and dedicated in October 1886.⠀ .⠀ Standing at a height of 112 ⅝" (286 cm), the present 'La Statue de la Liberté' was cast from the original plaster model, which now resides in the Musée des Arts et Métiers, Paris having been donated by Bartholdi's widow in 1907.⠀ .⠀ It was this plaster that was subsequently enlarged by four times for the intermediary plaster, and then by four times again to achieve the final plaster that was used to cast the Statue of Liberty, which stands at over 150 feet high.⠀ .⠀ The flame in the present work is gilded by the same company that still maintains the flame of Lady Liberty today.⠀ .⠀ Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904), 'La Statue de la Liberté'.
