Big time. I mean, there are a lot of people that I have to thank in my life but let’s just designate this moment for Mike. Throughout this incredibly strange period of time and with all the uncertainty floating in the air (and his wingman @jefflackie being exiled in Canada) he has remained steadfast in committing to finding on-snow training with the very best conditions possible and piecing together a group of amazing people to fill in for the staff that we’ve been missing (refer to: wingman exiled in Canada, also ski magician @stroblijohann exiled in Austria). Back in April, I was mentally preparing for a summer with zero time on my skis, and then just jumping in the first race of the season like 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. He has not allowed that to happen, in fact we’ve had some incredibly productive training days in the midst of all this craziness. But let’s take a little trip down memory lane- not that far really- just back to January 29. 10pm, when I knocked on his door, and choked out that my Dad had an accident at home. Could he just maybe help my mom and me find a flight to get home... now? We found a flight from Munich, 5 hours away from where we were, in the early AM. We needed to leave at 3:45 to get there... and I doubt either my mom or I were thinking clearly at all because we kinda just thought we’d magically appear at the airport. But 3:45 AM hit and Mike was there, ready to silently pack our bags into the car and drive us the 5 hours to Munich. I don’t remember asking... I just remember that he was there, and in that moment, that was everything we could have ever asked for and all that we needed. Covid has slowed a lot down, but not Mike. He has been a rock through multiple globes, Gold medals, and now the seemingly insurmountable obstacles being thrown at us but he doesn’t waver.
