On August 18, 1920, nearly one hundred years ago, the 19th Amendment was ratified, guaranteeing the right to vote irrespective of sex. But it would still be decades until this right was also extended to Black women and women of color, and the fight against voter repression continues today. Now, on the centennial anniversary of the 19th amendment’s ratification, former First Lady and @whenweallvote co-chair Michelle Obama (@ミシェル・オバマ) is connecting the dots between that momentous occasion in history to the ongoing struggles of our time in an exclusive video for BAZAAR. “These victories were hard won, but the struggle was worth it because our foremothers knew that our vote is our voice,” says Michelle. “It gives us the power to determine the course of our lives and the direction of our country. And this year in this election, we cannot take that power for granted.” Make sure you’re registered to vote at whenweallvote.org
