Dear Marsha,
Today you would have turned 75 years old. Sometimes your life seems so far away, your magic was of another time. But I have to remind myself, you were born the same year as #BetteMidler and #GoldieHawn, a year after #AngelaDavis, 3 years after #Biden. I could go on and on, my point being that you should have been here with us today. We failed you Marsha. We still don’t know who took you from us. But we know why. Your fire shone so bright that someone small, who felt their own fire dwindling, felt threatened, felt jealous, felt angry. How dare she shine so bright? I’d like to let you know Marsha, that your fire never went out. I see it on the streets, in the bars and dance floors, on the piers. I see it in the eyes of those who are fearlessly themselves. I see it in black and brown queer and trans people. Marsha, your fire never went out. It spread like wild fire and set us ablaze. I will fight for you forever, Marsha. I love you, I thank you, I honor you, I miss you. Happy birthday.
Xx
