Coach Thompson... so proud of you as a black man who cared for so many young black men. You had a huge hand in raising these young men at the most pivotal precious time of their lives. A coach isn’t just a coach. They’re a father, a friend, a nurturer, a listener, a teacher, a disciplinarian, a life consultant, a life coach, a motivator and so much more. I have so much respect for coaches especially the great ones who help foster and raise and lift these young men with potential to unlock their greatest them on and off the court. You were a giant example for me as young black man. I didn’t play sports but to see your predominantly black teams in those grey and blue uniforms made me want to go to college. It empowered me to know that we can be educated at the highest level and still be ourselves. You groomed young leaders that will groom young leaders and groomed your own son as a young leader to groom more young leaders. So in this moment as I yet again sit in sadness as i have often done in 2020 due to the colossal losses I’ve experienced this year, I also find myself rejoicing in your purpose. I smile knowing that your presence is infected in a few generations of greats that will pass that light, them lessons and most of all that love on to a tribe of others who need it. You saved one of my heroes lives @アレン・アイバーソン thank u for that and so many others. You are an example of a strong black man a father a leader a legend and hero #restwell #ripcoachjohnthompson
