The pain expressed by the veterans who committed their lives to serving and protecting our country, was devastating. The horror of the Gold Star families, whose children gave the greatest sacrifice— their lives— was hard to witness. The rage of decorated military leaders who know the bravery, skill and fortitude required by their troops, firing back at a disgraceful Commander in Chief. We have known. We have seen it- the disdain, the disrespect. We saw him insult Mr. & Mrs Khan, a Gold Star family. We saw him say that John McCain was not a war hero because he got caught. We read that after Senator McCain died, the ship with his namesake was brought out to honor him, and Trump demanded the name of the ship be covered. We know that Putin put a bounty of 100k on the life of each US soldier killed, and Trump has done nothing to hold Russia accountable or to protect our servicemen. And we saw, just today, Trump defend Putin and insult a decorated US veteran, John Kelly. Perhaps we had become desensitized. But today, the pain and outrage erupted and my heart hurts for every military family who read the contemptible and soulless words of their President. To all of you, thank you for your service and your sacrifice. You are all Americans Heroes.🇺🇸 And thank you Vice President Biden, who hugged his son goodbye as he went to war, for your leadership and your commitment to honor those lost.
