“My piece is called ‘Lonesome and loving it’, which is a hand-embroidered photo print. I wanted to express the confident, positive energy of 20s jazz through the embroidery, particularly the sharp, fluid leg movements seen in Josephine Baker’s dancing. I listened to jazz music from the era whilst working on the piece and caught myself moving my feet to the fast rhythm, despite being sat down!”
