“The year 2020 had already presented major, life-altering challenges to people’s lives; so when I found out we’d be broadcasting games remotely from Moda Center while the Trail Blazers played games in Orlando, although not ideal, I felt like it was a great opportunity to still be able to cover the team and hopefully provide entertainment and respite for Rip City. At times, broadcasting games from a quiet studio required me to create my own energy. There’s no roar of the crowd. There’s no interaction with the players, meaning there isn’t the usual @bosnianbeast27 bear hug pre-game…there’s no @デイミアン・リラード stopping by my broadcast position to confirm who the ball was out on…no Coach Stotts looking over to see my thought on whether a referee’s call was good or not. In this new world of broadcasting, 100% of my attention is on a TV screen. The gameday process was simple: check-in online prior to arrival. Once I’m at the Rose Quarter campus, I get my temperature checked before proceeding through the @moda_center doors. From there, I have the option of going to my newly created locker room (to allow for social distancing while not officially working), or directly into Blazers Broadcasting. I generally chose the latter. Games were exhilarating. I mean, can you believe how wild those seeding games were?! The Blazers have elite leadership and a special group of people. I’m glad I got a chance to see that manifest itself into a playoff run I’ll never forget.” – @l_hurd
