Looking for a little inspiration? Why not invoke the help of the Nine Muses? 🎼 🎭 📝 🎨
In ancient Greek mythology, the Muses are the goddesses of science, literature, and the arts. Each of the Nine Muses presides over a specific area, including comedic, tragic, and love poetry, dance, music, rhetoric, divine hymns, and astronomy.
The goddesses are identifiable by the tools of their associated trades. Euterpe, whose domain is music, is seen holding flutes, and Thalia, muse of comedy, is depicted carrying a comedic mask. Urania, muse of astronomy, is shown with a globe and a crown of stars, and Erato, muse of love poetry and lyrical writing has her lyre.
Swipe to the end to see the winged horse Pegasus striking Mount Helicon, home of the Nine Muses, and causing the Hippocrene spring of poetic inspiration to flow.
"Bed Hanging with Pegasus and the Nine Muses," Italy, circa 1700, silk plain weave with silk and metallic-thread embroidery.
