Photo by @amivitale Monday morning rush hour in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, as students bike to school. School starts at 7:30 a.m. sharp in this picturesque seaside town. Trincomalee is one of the oldest cities in Asia, and has been a Hindu pilgrimage site since 400 B.C.E. Now Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, and Muslim communities live together—one of the many hopeful scenes I witnessed while working in Sri Lanka for @ナショナルジオグラフィック, looking at the memory of the 26-year-long civil war that ended in 2009.
