When I was little, I was made to feel like being a minority was a bad thing. I grew up hearing bad stereotypes about Cubans, and racial slurs about "being fresh off the boat" or "illegal immigrants", even tho liiiikkkee, my family *flew* over from Cuba, became legal, oh and my grandpa even served in WWII (and received a Purple Heart!). 💁🏼‍♀️ . Today I am beyond proud to be Cuban American and grateful to be a minority with such an amazing family history, traditions, and overall vibe! . Maybe some of you remember when I went to Cuba after finding my grandma's notebook after she died, to do a documentary about "Finding my Roots in Cuba" (if not I'll post it on Stories)! . In case it isn't obvious, I love Hispanic and Latin countries as well, and I know you all do too, because I see you traveling to them!! . It makes me sad that there's still such bad stereotypes and treatment of Hispanic/Latinx people in the US, and even more sad/angry that there are people in power positions that GREATLY contribute to that. . Hispanic Americans largely helped build the US we have today. Yet are treated like we are still just from some foreign country. So these next 30 days, I urge you to show gratitude to all of the Hispanic/Latinx people you know or come in contact with. . Better yet, download a language learning app and start learning a few key phrases in Spanish. No, you don't NEED it in the US, but who doesn't WANT to be bilingual and expand your knowledge? Also, it'll go a long way when you're traveling in one of the MANY Spanish speaking countries ! (Nothing irritates me more than when an American travels to a Spanish speaking country and complains that no one speaks English!). . So a big SALUT to all my fellow Hispanic/Latinx people!!! Please give a shout out below where you are from, and if you're not, but want to help celebrate, give a shout to your favorite Latin or Spanish country!!! . PS: It's also Mexican Independence Day! . #latina #cuban #cuba #hispanicheritagemonth #hispanic #mylifesatravelmovie」9月17日 4時51分 - mylifesatravelmovie
