It was first mentioned back in 1663, when Samuel Pepys tasted it at the Royal Oak Tavern in London and wrote, 'drank a sort of French wine called Ho 'Bryan that hath a good and most particular taste I never met with'. ⠀

Haut-Brion was first sold at Christie's on 6 April 1778 under the name of 'Pontac' — after its prominent early owner Jean de Pontact and the wine, known for its richness and depth, is generally comprised of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. ⠀

One of the most consistent First Growths, Haut-Brion produces outstanding wines in many vintages, but the 1989 is one of only a handful of truly profound wines. It stands out for its incredible sense of balance; the depth of flavor, varied aromas, perfect acidity and youthful energy all come together in near perfect harmony.⠀
