CANON USAさんのインスタグラム写真 - (CANON USAInstagram)「Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @ricksammonphotography "'I want to get a photograph that truly depicts the exotic feeling and mood of an African photo safari.' That’s what I said to my wife Susan when, before going on our fourth photo safari, she asked me, 'What’s the one photograph that you really want to get on this trip?' (Actually, I think was asking, 'Why do you need another photo safari picture!?') She asked because I have thousands of safari images, but some, such as my wildlife head shots, could have been taken in zoos in the United States. What’s more, even some of the wide-angle shots look as though they might have been taken in wildlife parks, some of which offers realistic settings. With my goal in mind, I set out to get a shot of an African animal silhouetted against a dramatic golden sunset – the kind of sunset that you don’t see at a wildlife park. On day two of our safari, we encountered a giraffe silhouetted against the setting sun. After directing my driver to find the best location for the shot, the scene illustrated two composition rules: 1) the giraffe, sun and tree illustrated the 'rule of odds,' and 2) each element in the scene was isolated, illustrating the rule of 'separation.' After framing my shot and setting my exposure compensation to -2.33 (in order to keep the edges of the sun crisp so it looked like a ball of light), I shot and accomplished my goal. Sure, tech stuff, like exposure composition and knowing the rules of composition, is good to know, but always remember that mood matters most in any photograph. It’s also important, very important, to set goals – in our photography and of course in our life."
