In 2019, the M.T.A. recorded 195 collisions between trains and people, the highest number in at least a decade. A new short documentary follows three train operators in the year after they were involved in deadly collisions. “There’s really no way to prepare for them, and there’s absolutely no way to prevent them,” one operator says.
