SINGLE. TIME. It's poetic and simple in its presentation which allows easy digestion for younger kids yet still so immensely powerful & moving. Thank you brother James, our elder Marcus is shining his light down on you!! Berkeley is loving cursive writing and determined to master this lost writing technique. Which I'm grateful for because I too love to write in cursive. It can be so beautiful. Thanks to @blossomandroot for our 'we come from stardust' nature project which saw us create a nature mobile to help understand the cosmos and the role the sun along with the planets our solar system. And of course, a big shoutout to @singaporemath for the fun & challenging dimensions 1st grade math. I'll say this as we approach the end of our 2nd month of homeschooling---every bump in the road along the way is 100%%%% worth it when I see/hear Berkeley apply the concepts/history etc she's learning in every day life. To watch her mind, knowledge and capacity for learning expand right before my eyes has been a treasure to see. That's not to say we don't bump heads at times, or there aren't struggles in this process but I'd rather deal with those than what is created when a black child is indoctrinated their entire life by a white supremacist educational system. You may be successful, even wealthy...but the mental shackles placed on the mind do irreparable damage to the psyche and soul. Never permitting the black adult to fully embrace, nor understand our history, culture, nor our fully realized greatness. Therefore incapable of fully grasping the systems in place created to intentionally keep us in 'our place.' Imagine celebrating your ancestors oppressors: religion, holidays, culture and history while turning your nose down at your own! This will be the greatest gift I can leave these children with.
