The semi-autobiographical tale follows a fictional Radha Blank, a Black woman on the cusp of 40 trying to reclaim her sexuality and voice as a playwright in a quickly gentrifying New York. Blank herself grew up in Brooklyn, the child of struggling artists, and went on to enjoy some success in the world of Off-Broadway theater before taking TV writing gigs to pay the bills.
