My family moved to Florida in my late teens and after high school, I worked in the retail/customer service industry for many years, until the idea of working in animation became my focus. Thanks to the generosity and help of family and friends, I was able to go back to school and blaze a path that led me to Walt Disney Animation Studios! When I was little I had dreams of my drawings coming to life. Taking a cue from my super creative Uncle Tony, I folded pieces of typing paper and drew comic books inspired by TV shows, cartoons, and movies that I never stopped watching. The ‘Making Of’ specials for the Star Wars films in the early ‘80s also sparked dreams of me being one of the behind-the-scenes people, setting up the movie magic for the audience to behold. Celebrating my Hispanic heritage helps me understand who I am & where I came from, & it informs where I’m going in the future. Talking about it with others, hearing their perspectives & realizing that there are many ‘shared’ experiences has helped me feel less isolated during these times. My advice is to never stop dreaming, but never think you can do it alone. Collaboration is at the heart of all creativity! Not just in the studio, but in LIFE.
