“I voted. Did you?” We need you to! And we need every person in your phone contacts to as well. Will you encourage and help them to vote? November 3 is not election day; it is merely the last official day of one of the longest election campaigns ever, one that could continue for weeks afterwards.

The election is NOW it ENDS November 3rd. It feels empowering to vote. To participate in this admittedly, work-in-progress participatory democracy. To be clear, voting in and of itself does not or is it meant to solve ALL problems BUT...it is in fact a true citizen based power! Real systemic inequities combined with mis & dis-information campaigns and continuous disappointments in elected officials have led many of us to believe that voting doesn’t matter.

That whoever wins makes no qualitative difference and that our votes are taken for granted. Much of that is absolutely true, but that is still not a reason to withhold your vote. It is true that money has taken over politics. And virtually no legislation anymore is actually written by the people who we elect into legislative positions. Most are written by corporate and special interest lobbyists who draft the legislation and pass it to the legislator to introduce. Citizens United and lack of campaign finance reform has made this problem even worse. But that is stil not a reason to withhold your vote. It is the power of the people in a democracy. If we don’t use our power we give it away to others. When you vote you choose the best candidate out of the choices you have.

You may not even like or agree with them on everything or much. But you choose the best from the choices every time you fill out a ballot. If you consistently don’t like the choices that doesn’t mean you don’t vote that just means that you consider running for office yourself or recruit people that you think would be better to run. The power of your vote isn’t about who the candidates are or the political parties. It is your voice. Your power. If you don’t use it you give too much power away to others to elect people that they are choosing to support.
