The project on display is titled “Alone Together”. “In March of this year I left my home in NYC to come down to my family’s summer place in South Jersey with my family. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to share the early months of the Pandemic quarantined with one another. It was and still is time that I do not take for granted and appreciate more than I could possibly express. I had to turn down Covid related assignments from publications that I absolutely love working with as well as new clients that I’ve been craving to work with for some time now, making me feel very conflicted about my place as a photographer. I knew that covering such harrowing and historical moments would have been a needed part of my vision and quest as a photographer but deep down I knew that I needed to put my family’s safety first. This feels like the first time in my life where the immediacy of everything around me can be photographed all the time without worrying about anything else. There’s more clarity in being able to just look and watch things occur, especially in such a liminal space. Oddly, not taking editorial shoots helped realign my sensibilities as an artist.” About the artist - Devin Yalkin (b. 1981), a native and resident of New York City, is a black-and-white photographer who received his BFA in Photography at the School of Visual Arts (2010). His work has been exhibited domestically and internationally. Yalkin’s photography has made front cover of the NYTimes magazine multiple times and he was chosen as the exclusive photographer for the music issue of New York Times Magazine in 2019.
