A second excavation begins Monday at a Tulsa cemetery in an effort to find and identify victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The city is hoping to shed light on the violence, which left an estimated 300 people dead and wounded 800 more. The massacre decimated an area that was once a cultural and economic hub for African Americans known as “Black Wall Street.”

“I realize we can tell this story the way it needs to be told, now,” said Phoebe Stubblefield, a forensic anthropologist and descendant of a survivor of the massacre, who is assisting the search. Tap the link in bio for more on the story.
