Wearing your counties flag as you jog a lap of honour, it’s just insane. For me when I pick my phone up and see all the messages of congratulations and more recently the slightly wonky/warped pictures people have taken from their TV is when I realise the magnitude of it all !!! Lol! I occasionally sit and wonder how the people who are less complimentary of darker skin feel when we wear the Union Jack. Are we finally accepted, does the fact we won a shiny medal for GB out weigh the fact we’re black? Or is the medal void because well, “they’re not really British, are they” , believe it or not people say that to my face. I mean after all we’ve all heard the rhyme right ?! Well if your not BAME you probably haven’t. So just in case let me give you the last few lines “There ain’t no black in the Union Jack so **** off and never come back.” Initially reading this you might feel shocked, sad or even angry but the reality is growing up hearing this as a 8/9 year old was just the norm. When I hear this rhyme now, 20 years later, I just laugh, because I now understand its only spoken by the uninformed. Black Brits helped build the UK/GB to what it is today and its time celebrate !!!
