The project on display is titled “All your memories are birds”. “This June, I witnessed a partial solar eclipse. It was one of the most frightening things I’ve seen. Even though we know what’s happening, there is always a second of blind panic as we wonder if the sun will emerge again.” says the artist. “I made the images in this project during a time of great uncertainty. I moved back to my childhood home and to my grandparents in India after over a decade, just in time for the largest lockdown in history. During these months, I begin to feel the fragility of my grandparents, and of my childhood memories of them. The pandemic has made me look at them in a different light, and come to terms with their mortality. Although there is an undercurrent of anxiety to the project, it is grounded in the love of my grandparents and the little world that we live in together for now.” About the artists - Neha Hirve is a mixed-genre photographer who completed an MA in photojournalism at Mittuniversitetet in Sundsvall in June 2017. Since then Neva has been mainly focusing on long-term projects. Her work has been published in Swedish and international publications National Geographic and the New York Times, and has received grants from The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and Women Photograph. Her photographic work concerns itself with in-betweens. It lies in the space between documentary and fine art, between man and his environment, performance and fact, and tries to seek a kind of truth via metaphors - every small story alludes to the larger story of what it means to be human. She is especially interested in using photography in conjunction with other mediums of storytelling such as film, text, and audio.
