I decided to climb upto Chandrashila peak at 3 am, all by myself.
.
Now the previous evening as I made it to Chandrashila peak on 30th September, I didn’t have a single idea about how I’d end up going to Kedarnath for next few days.
But while catching sunset from the peak, I decided to give that idea a serious thought, but along with the Kedarnath idea, I heard someone saying that the best time to be at Chandrashila was at the sunrise.
Now I had all the plans of returning from Chandrashila, getting a nice rest, and probably leaving for Deoriatal next afternoon from Chopta. However, on my way back I decided to return for the sunrise.
So climbed down the mountain, got an early dinner, packed some food for the way, slept for 4-5 hours and then woke up at around 2:30 AM, with all the thoughts about how it wouldn’t be a good idea walking through the jungle at night, specially when there could be leopards or bear.
But then I knew I had to do this, so keeping my fear at bay, I left from my lodge in Chopta at around 3 AM, praying to all the gods I knew, using my phone’s torch wherever necessary, since it was a fairly moonlit night, and just enjoying the chill in the air.
It was definitely the most silent trek of my life, with no person in sight, only stars, and Himalayan peaks shining under moonlight for company, and a constantly decreasing fear as I made my way towards the peak.
Now I don’t know what had gotten into me, for I’d never climb the same mountain again, few hours later, walking alone through the night, when I could just sleep.
But I’m glad I did that, and eventually ended up catching the sunrise from Chandrashila.
It was spectacular nonetheless, but more importantly it gave me the necessary impetus for my upcoming adventures during the next few days, whether it was trekking to Kedarnath with around 26 Kgs of luggage, or making it to Kedartal despite not being at my fittest.
