So I just wanted to take a minute to highlight some really good work happening out there. 1.) @marshallproj has been reporting on stuff others might miss, like Covid cases in prison, the use of police dogs, and media coverage of Black homicide victims. 2.) @radiolab covers things in really interesting ways and explains things that may seem impenetrable in a way I can grasp. This most recent episode about possibilities post-election day is fascinating. 3.) @propublica is working to keep local journalism alive. The investigations they help fund are big and essential, and it’s stuff that might get missed as local news outlets lose more and more funding. 4.) @economichardship reporting project was started by Barbara Ehrenreich to make sure people can report on economic issues that they experience and understand themselves. Trust in any institution right now seems fraught, but without journalists exploring effects of policy, without hearing all kinds of stories, and without supporting all kinds of storytellers, we’re missing a big piece of a democracy.
