Now for a complete change of pace, we are staying here, inside the belly of a giant snake !
.
“On the outskirts of Mexico City, in a wooded area of 5,000 square meters in Naucalpan there is an impressive building that looks more like a snake than a set of houses-rooms. The structure was built in 2008 and due to its shape it got the nickname Nest of Quetzalcóatl.
.

El Nido was designed by the Mexican architect Javier Senosiain and is one of the main examples of so-called organic architecture. This type of structure has to do, according to Juan O'Gorman, both with the geographical context, where a construction is located, as well as with the cultural and identity. If, before making the plans, these elements are taken into account, the forms will emerge in a natural way and will become an extension of the environment.

Naucalpan: the unexpected home of Quetzalcóatl

The land that was chosen for the development was very irregular, since at the beginning it was crossed, from end to end, by a stream planted with oaks. In addition, there were several caves that presented a security threat, as they could collapse at any time. Although the initial objective was to create a series of apartments, the complexity of the land made the architect decide to build a small number of houses and to respect the natural environment that surrounded it.

A total of ten houses were built then in elongated structures that, like a kind of arches, detach from the ground and seem to meander through the land. When viewed from above, the builders realized that the development looked like a snake, so they decided to use the only remaining cave to make a head for the reptile.”
