Wangari Maathai – founder of the Green Belt Movement and the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. 🌿
We want to take time to highlight some of the world’s incredible women. This week’s #WCW is none other than Wangari Muta Maathai – the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctorate. She later served on the National Council of Women, where she introduced community-based tree planting. 🌳The @GreenBeltMovement, whose focus is poverty reduction and environmental conservation through tree planting, was created.
These are only some of the wildly impressive things Wangari achieved in her lifetime. Her legacy lives on through the forests and communities she helped to restore. Planting trees and restoring the areas we cultivate is in the hearts of all our growers. L’Occitane believes in giving more than we take from nature.
