サザビーズさんのインスタグラム写真 - (サザビーズInstagram)「These lush ‘Pink Roses’ by Scottish Colourist Samuel John Peploe were painted around 1906, the year after the artist moved into his studio in Edinburgh, built in 1795 for the famed Scottish portrait painter Henry Raeburn who installed a clever system of shutters which carefully controlled the intensity and direction of light entering into the space. Working in this studio had an immediate impact on Peploe’s work: a turn towards lightness and whiteness. He wears the influences of James McNeill Whistler, John Singer Sargent and Edouard Manet, lightly, to produce a still life of subtle beauty and restrained richness, his broad brushstrokes conveying an immediacy of feeling and of spontaneity, of delight in the exquisiteness of a bunch of roses and in the creamy quality of paint itself.
