This year, Thanksgiving looks a little different for turkey farmers.
Over 70 percent of households plan on a Thanksgiving with fewer than six people, according to a Nielsen survey, and nearly 25 percent of households will be serving smaller turkeys this year, according to a survey by Butterball, the largest U.S. turkey producer.
For producers big and small, that has meant adjustments to how the turkeys are both grown and processed to have fresh and frozen birds ready for the busy holiday season.
