"Parr’s shift from black-and-white to colour in the mid-1980s exaggerates and dramatises a shift that was of course more gradual and complex. In fact, Ireland’s transformation did not go in a straight line: the 1980s were marked by recession, high unemployment and the resumption of mass emigration" - Fintan O'Toole

Martin Parr's (@martinparrstudio) new book, From the Pope to a Flat White, Ireland 1979-2019, brings together four decades of work made in Ireland, from his early black and white images of papal visits and rusting Morris Minors, through to color images of a changing nation.
