For the most part, designers can't really draw and draughtsman cant really design. Most can use their visual skills to do an approximation of the other craft but it's superficial. Glaser had the full package. He came from drawing but if his imagination landed on a simple visual idea, he unhesitatingly threw out his all-world drawing skills, and made brilliant simple graphic designs. I can’t think of another visual artist with this range. He and his #Pushpinstudio cohorts were progenitors to Rap DJs or postmodern painters of the 70s-80s. They unapologetically drew from whatever styles or sources struck their fancies. Now if a designer or an artist with aspirations claims comic books and candy wrappers as influences, it seems reflexive. In the 50s when Milton started doing it most illustration still looked like Norman Rockwell, it was bold. Under Glaser Pushpin brought design, typography and illustration into a single practice, also revolutionary at the time. All of that has had a big influence on me and countless other artists and designers that have followed.
