Part of the last U-17 Residency class in Bradenton, Akinola was teammates with @sgd_2, @_joshsargent_ and @timothyweah at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in 🇮🇳. There, he scored a crucial game-winner in a 1-0 group-stage victory vs. 🇬🇭, helping the team reach the quarterfinals. The following year, Ayo was key in the 🇺🇸 qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, scoring seven goals to push the team to the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship. 🏆 He was originally part of the final World Cup roster, but injury ruled him out of the tournament. The 20-year-old had a breakout campaign with @torontofc this season, his nine goals in 15 matches tying 2020 @mls MVP Alejandro Pozuelo for the team scoring lead.
