Ten years ago today, Dec 12th, 2010, I laid eyes on this sweet little baby for the very first time. He was being shown for adoption at a Farmer’s Market in LA, and the record stopped when I saw him. He was wearing an oversized sweater-shirt and was shivering from the cold LA air (it was about 65 degrees that day. Haha) He didn’t have any teeth at the time but his little face and overbite melted my heart. A year later in 2011, I joined Instagram but I didn’t have any agenda whatsoever to garner a following. Instagram didn’t even have influencers back then. I decided to make the account about Tuna because I didn’t want to make it about me. Plain and simple, but almost immediately people were drawn to his unconventional features and told me in comments that he brought a lot of joy and laughter. One year later, on Dec 12th, 2012, he went viral when @instagram featured 3 pictures in 1 of him on their profile unbeknownst to me. That changed everything for us and I’m so thankful to @dantoffey for putting Toons on the map. I’m also so thankful for all of you who have been following, whether it’s been one day or ten years, and everything in between. You guys are the absolute greatest and I’m so humbled that you’ve been apart of our lives this long! Since Dec 12th was a big day for us for two different years, I wanted to make sure that I celebrated it even though the day is almost over on the east coast because it’s 12 minutes to midnight.
