It’s not just that high-quality habitat provides for the very basics of survival: a place to shelter young, dense herds of prey to hunt…enough room for the complex choreography of pride life. Space also equals movement—for lions and for their genes too. When young males strike out in search of new prides over vast distances, they help maintain the genetic diversity that is so critical for population resilience and persistence.
