A group of us went to a big dinner after the last workday. There were around 20 of us sitting around a large table and we were laughing and having such a good time. Out of the blue, Sugar Ray announced that he wanted everyone, one by one, to stand up and give a strong boxing stance and a few punches. I was the last to go and didn’t know what to do, but because we were all having so much fun, I wanted to keep the excitement going. I set my feet at what I thought was a proper boxing stance and then threw out a couple of punches as fast as I could. Sugar Ray and his crew exclaimed all sorts of things like “Dang, Tyra, it’s like that?!“ “Aw man, Y’all better watch out for her!“ “OK, she ain’t playing one bit.” Sugar Ray then stood up and proclaimed my new name was BUTTERFLY BANKS.⁠ ⁠ So you know what I did… I went back home to Los Angeles and started training with a legendary boxing coach, @terryclaybon. To get me pumped up, Terry would call me by my boxing name which would get me to punch faster and faster and faster and faster. I was probably in some of the best shape of my life back then.
