When the announcement came that we would be staying home, I made a conscious decision to take off the wedding band I normally wear, for just my small and simple engagement ring. Something about knowing it would just be Eric and I for a while made me want to go back to how my life was before. Before I we had opportunities to travel, and before blogging had become my job, to a time when I had less but was still blissfully content. Looking down at the ring that Eric proposed with on a dark street in Portland, when the space between us on a cold night was bridged by excitement and the words “will you marry me?” without either of us knowing what the future would look like. No clue when or where we’d get married (or how we would even afford a wedding) but the simple knowledge that the details didn’t matter. We would make it work, just the two of us. I briefly wore my other rings this Summer when it felt like things might be getting more normal, and shed them again as we stayed even closer to home. That same feeling of returning to the basics is what allowed me to sell, donate, and give away a large portion of my wardrobe and to pull out old favorites to style again. This blouse that I’ve had since our honeymoon, and this purse I’ve always loved. Tried and true, simple pieces that make me feel like me are what I want these days, on the odd days where I actually put on an outfit. The rest of the time, it’s just me, Eric, and Mops.
