So when it comes to the holidays, especially Christmas, everyone spends from the 15th of December till the 26th of December sleeping at the church as a whole community.” The oldest of a family of 13 siblings, Aweng explains how much she loved being together with her loved ones. “We stay at the church every single night, pray in the day, and all the mothers and wives cook in the day, and then we all eat and then come back to sleep in the same place. It’s beautiful.” This year, Aweng will incorporate some of her favorite traditions into her new life with her wife, #AlexusAdeChoul, like how to say Merry Christmas in the Dinka language. “We'll just say ‘lidlid’, which is ‘Christmas, Christmas, happy Christmas!’” she explains.
