She is anywhere between 180 to 140 million years old!!!! She arose in the jungles of the great supercontinent, a combination of Australia and Antarctica known as Gondwana. The flower is so old it predates honeybees. So it has to be pollinated by Beetles... and would you believe it... right in front of my very eyes the Eupomatiaceae were being pollinated... BY BEETLES! I consider myself to be immensely lucky to witness one of the oldest dances in biological history!!!! I feel truly blessed to be in Australia!
