While in labor, my doula called me a “flexible Type-A”, which I’ve held onto since. It’s one of my favorite descriptions- it’s probably an oxymoron really, but I think in reality it’s possible and I love it. When I think of it (which is all the time), it reminds me- I’m more flexible than I think, you know? It just has to be worked, to be stretched every day. And this year has streeeeeeeeetcheeeeeed us. We are all pliable, almost to the point of breaking. But I think what comes with that is added perspective and appreciation. I’m going to keep working on my flexibility, because it’s something I have to work on every day. It doesn’t come easy. But we also have the comfort and capacity for strength that flexibility brings. Above all, we must remember to be easy on ourselves. This is not a normal time- make sure show yourself and others compassion.
